Havana, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stressed the importance for Cuba''s development the recently opened container terminal in Mariel, during a tour of those facilities along with President Raul Castro.

During the visit held yesterday, Lula stated that the terminal represents for the country the possibility of an industrial revolution, and will attract new companies for the development of high-quality products, Granma newspapers reports.

He also said to be proud of the Brazilian participation in the new moment Cuba is experiencing, and the implementation of works held in the Mariel Special Development Zone (MSDZ), 45 kilometers west of Havana.

Lula also congratulated Raul Castro for the decisions to modernize the country, and made clear the necessity to end the U.S.-imposed economic, financial and trade blockade on Cuba for more than 50 years.
The former Brazilian statesman reaffirmed that the cessation of that hostile measure is essential for Cuba's full development.
