U.S. Vice President Joe Biden calls Venezuela's situation alarming in remarks published Sunday, suggesting its government is using "armed vigilantes" against peaceful protesters and accusing it of "concocting false and outlandish conspiracy theories" about the United States.
Biden's remarks, issued in writing to a Chilean newspaper in response to questions, drew an angry rebuke from Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
"We reject their aggression," President Maduro told supporters at a rally the socialist-led government held at the presidential palace. "They were defeated in the OAS and now they want revenge."
The U.S. had strongly objected to a declaration of solidarity for Venezuela issued by the Organization of American States on Friday night.

Look like Biden is another right-wing fascist and not a true Democrat.

Officials said early Sunday there were 73 arrests and four officers were injured in the clashes that included some students throwing beer bottles, cans and snowballs.

(5,005 posts)The UMass students were drunk and partying, not protesting terrible living conditions and rampant crime.
The VZ students are exercising rights that most progressives would support - the right to petition their government, via peaceful protest, for redress.
Or do you disagree with the rights of people to protest when they feel their government isn't serving them?
I grew up in the turbulent '60s, and believe me, it was student protest that ended the terrible calamity called the Vietnam War. My sympathies usually go to student protesters, whether it's OWS or VZ students calling for safe streets and basic services.
Yes, there are factions calling for a coup, and they should be marginalized and decoupled from the student protests.
