Chile seeks to extradite Sydney nanny Adriana Rivas, implicated in Pinochet-era torture allegations
Updated 25 March 2014, 11:52 AEST

The Chilean government is seeking to extradite a Sydney woman to face trial on multiple charges of violent crime allegedly committed while she was serving under military dictator Augusto Pinochet's brutal intelligence apparatus.

ABC's Foreign Correspondent has discovered the woman, Adriana Rivas, works as a part-time nanny and cleaner in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

She settled there after after fleeing Chile in 2010 while on bail awaiting trial on seven charges of aggravated kidnapping.

A former servant at Santiago's infamous Simon Bolivar Barracks has provided testimony and evidence to Chilean prosecutors that Ms Rivas was involved in kidnapping and allegedly played a major role in interrogating victims during gruesome torture sessions at what many described as an "extermination centre".

Thatcher stands by Pinochet
..."Lady Thatcher thanked her old friend for being an ally during the 1982 Falklands War - and for "bringing democracy to Chile""
..."She added: "I'm also very much aware that it is you who brought democracy to Chile, you set up a constitution suitable for democracy, you put it into effect, elections were held, and then, in accordance with the result, you stepped down."
General Pinochet said it was an honour to have Lady Thatcher there at the "simple house" on the estate, and thanked her for her "kindness".
Seated in a chair and clutching a cane, he told her in Spanish, "This is a small house, but it is full of gratitude to you. It is only a small way to thank you for all your kindness."
She said she was glad he was "comfortable"."

Of course the problem isn't Thatcher or Pinochet or Kissinger or any other individual. These individuals aren't the problem *as such*, because they're just individuals. Individuals who used their considerable gifts in detestable fashion, to be sure, but they are still just individuals.

An inkling of the problem is that we can *know* how bloody the politics of these detestable individuals is, and how unjustified it is, in the sense that this can pass through our ears and an impression can be made, and yet these same detestable individuals (or their progeny) remain in power until now we're well into 2014 and there is still no sign of learning.

All of these people, including Kissinger, are still feted by the highest politicians and "political pundits (see footnote)" in the land. Someone on DU recently posted an awful pic of Pres Obama accompanied by Kissinger and Albright. It's a photo that sticks in my head, waiting for analysis.

That's the problem.

So. What's the cause?
Well, you can't *prove* that such and such is a cause just because one cites the effect (the fact to be explained)!
So let's take the term 'proof' out of there.
What might be the cause? Let's agree that no doubt there are many causes. What's a major cause? I say that a major cause is that folk who are economically "comfortable" within a very wide margin are quite happy to blame a "1%" of evildoers for not only controlling the immediate economy but also for controlling all wars and foreign policy, however horrendous that might turn out.

footnote: I'm amazed that the #1 top-crew of "political pundits" on MSM are 100% "embedded". That there is no charade that they won't play out. For money.

at some level behind their dull, idiotic faces. Seeing them in all their "glory" any time you turn on tv, droning on as always, reciting their ancient "talking points" is almost too much to take, at times.

Maybe under the surface, away from prying eyes of cameras, keyboards, people are taking in far more than we would expect, developing their own beliefs, searching for information on their own. I think that is far closer to what we expect from the human race than what we've been seeing.

As for the photo of Obama with Albright and Kissinger, that would have been horrifying to witness.
