Disney World among casualties of US-Venezuela spat

U.S.-Venezuela relations have been deteriorating for years, and for members of the socialist-governed county's better off, the failed diplomacy is suddenly endangering a dearly held value: Disney World.

The U.S. Embassy announced Sunday it will no longer issue tourist visas to first-time applicants, the latest in what analysts consider a series of increasingly hostile, politically motivated gestures that the two countries have made since anti-government protests broke out in Venezuela five weeks ago.

Angel Pirela, a mechanical engineer at a government-owned oil refinery, worries the decision may prevent him from taking his 2-year-old daughter to Disney World. He had been thinking of getting her a U.S. visa at the same time he renewed his, but said his wife convinced him to wait until a calmer time.

It may be too late.

Maybe you are not aware of Walt Disney's testimony to U.S. Senator Joseph R. McCarthy? You should check it out. Disney had no problem Identifying who in Hollywood he believed was a communist. U.S. Senator Joseph R. McCarthy destroyed careers and lives based on false information.

Disney was a very devout Congregationalist Christian, the religion of his family, and was named after the family minister. He was unashamed and spoke of his faith publicly. He even had the first Disneyland dedicated by a Congregationalist reverend.

There are many rumors that Disney was rabidly anti-Semitic. Some of this stems from Disney cartoon shorts featuring Jewish characters in a less-than-flattering light, while some of it stems from his association with various anti-Semites of the time.

Disney’s political leanings are well-known to be conservative, anti-union, and paranoid about communism. Disney was an associate of the poster boy for American anti-communism, Joe McCarthy, and even testified against some of his Hollywood peers in McCarthy’s infamous House Un-American Activities Committee.

I wouldnt take my kids there, its phony corporate garbage for profit, Take your child to Europe insteed. I hope you have learned something from this.

In my adult life I have traveled extensively, Id rather have a glass of wine on a farm in the South of France than waiting in line for anything at at any amusement park, unless, of course, they reopen West World!

Different people, different motivators I guess and thats fine, sorry If I sound judgmental. But truly the adults that are high on Mickey Mouse that I have known are a little scary.

They wanted to build a Disney Theme Park south of Washington DC in Virginia while I was living there, I guess it was late 90's. I was very happy when the backlash by the MAJORITY of residents was so great the corporate big D backed out after no small investments. A major victory over the corporate shills and speculators, some of which lost their collective shirts.

I have learned something here. I am not alone in my disdain of the corporate appetite for more and more profit.

I haven't even touched on the aspect of their influence on the Media.

Not all that shines is golden!

Ciao!

We often went to DisneyLand in Anaheim when I was a kid and I took my kids there often.

Why does everything have to be about politics, Disneyland was a fun place where we could escape the rat race for a while and have fun and I don't apologize for it.

I hope you have learned something from this. Some people take politics far too seriously and let it run their lives.

Some people have no regard for the past and are easily impressed with bright shiny marketing. Tell me what did you learn there?

Please don't bother to reply, as I do realize Some people take fantasy amusement parks far too seriously and let it run their lives.

My parents took me to the library, we were not wealthy enough to travel to theme parks I guess you were and are still.

I'll stick with natures creations, you can keep your shiny stuff.

As far as our parents being wealthy? We were a middle class family, not wealthy and as far as me personally being wealthy? If you count a pension as an Army Col., then I guess I'm wealthy, although by todays standards, I'm considered in the 99%.

What did I learn there? That kids can have fun without politics being involved.
You know, not everything in life is about politics, and I certainly don't let politics choose my entertainment.

Can we agree to disagree on this and move on?

Or do you want to continue to defend your opinion to me. You buy a product you like, thats fine, you seem to be upset that I do not share your opinion.

Maybe If you had spent your career in the corporate arena rather than the ARMY you would know where I coming from. Do you know what is said in boardrooms, these people are not your friends, your family represents one thing to them$.

I respect that you are providing entertainment to your children, I believe you are a good honest respectable person and I wish you well.

Let's move on, I'll bet we agree on 99% of the issues here so, on this one, let's just leave it as is.

I've no doubt you're a good honorable person also and I appreciate the kind words.

Kinda weird, though, I thought Maduristas were all about anti-Americanism and against mass consumerism/capitalism.

I tried to be respectful, I apologize if you felt I was not. I did not ROFL you and I would appreciate it if you would refrain from using the on post to me. Any other smily is fine and I will take it with the fun intended.

I find its insulting and goes straight to my hostility center bypassing my small but active gray matter.

Your apology is graciously accepted in advance.
