My rule of thumb for Bushwhacks is this: Whatever they say, the opposite is true; and, whatever they accuse others of doing, they are doing, or planning to do.
Very reliable 'rule of thumb' during the Bush Junta. With it, you could discover what was true and what was not, and what they were up to, long before investigators could assemble evidence of their lies or evil-doing. Just reverse anything they say, and you can pretty much know the truth, or what they REALLY were doing or planning to do.
Ergo, we can pretty much know that Chevron ROUTINELY writes judges' rulings for them, and ROUTINELY bribes judges. We know it from Part 2 of my 'rule of thumb': Whatever they accuse others of doing, they are doing or planning to do.
This elaborate Chevron scam of accusing indigenous Ecuadorans of controlling and bribing a judge and writing his judgement for him is EXACTLY what Chevron and its lawyer gangs DO.
It isn't journalism and it isn't very scientific to apply such an a priori rule to news reports of what is going on in the world, but it IS quite handy--and reliable--in generally understanding what is going on in the world, especially the behavior of our corporate overlords--whether it be war, or grand theft, or slaughtering peasant labor organizers, or avoiding culpability for poisoning us and killing Mother Earth. The rule can be a guide to investigators and it is a huge help in dealing with the non-stop lying liar corporate propaganda we get from the corporate 'news' monopolies.
Case in point (of the latter): This Ecuador case. It has been very difficult to know what is really going with this case because of the obscurantism and routine lying lies of the corporate media. I've also noticed that, with the Giants baseball team's success in the recent playoff's (I'm a fan), our own people are bombarded with the most disgusting, smarmy, propagandistic, literally brainwashing Chevron commercials, so that people who don't think--or people at their most vulnerable, in an 'entertainment' frame of mind--have this sickening-sweet image of Chevron planted in their brains, and if they hear about these terrorist indigenous in Ecuador picking on poor Chevron, they are inclined to view it Chevron's way. How could such a nice corporation by lying? With the National Corporate Anthem and 'God Bless Corporate America' ringing in their ears, and the 'wild card' Giants in the World Series against the 'wild card' Kansas City Royals, how can they think that the SPONSOR of such fun are the sneakiest dirty dealers imaginable, as bad as the oilmen of the Bush Junta?
So, some 'a priori' is definitely needed, to figure things out.
