The movement calls on Mexicans to organize at a grassroots level, saying it has come to a point of no return for Mexican society.
Leftists in Mexico, including former politicians, have launched a new movement in the country to counter politics as usual, in what they call a collective effort to rethink the project of the nation.
In a project called For Mexico Today (Por Mexico Hoy), the leaders say they are not creating a new political party and will not promote any candidate, but rather create a space for activists and citizens who are not grouped in any party to participate in politics.
What is the task now? We all become organizers to discuss issues that affect us in any way and propose ways to resolve them, said Cuauhtemoc Cardenas, former presidential candidate, creator of Mexico's left-wing Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), and son of former left-wing President Lazaro Cardenas.
We are organizing in order to reach out, as soon as possible, to form an unstoppable social wave, which will impose changes, legally and peacefully, that the nation and the people are demanding most, added Cuauhtemoc in an address Saturday at the movement's launch.
