Venezuela Says It Will Sue in US Court Over Sanctions
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CARACAS, Venezuela Oct 29, 2015, 5:34 PM ET
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says he will take his rejection of Washington's sanctions on officials in his administration to a U.S. court.
Maduro said during a televised address Thursday that his government will sue over a decree that President Barack Obama signed earlier this year declaring the South American country a threat and imposing sanctions on top officials for alleged human rights violations.
Maduro has been railing against those sanctions since they were imposed in March, and promoted a signature-gathering campaign demanding the decree be lifted. He says he is now moving on to legal action as the surest way to force its repeal. He did not provide further details.
The two countries had been pursuing a diplomatic rapprochement, but recent weeks have seen an escalation in hostile rhetoric.
