Chavez and Cuba's Role in Colombian Peace Process Recognized

Bogota, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The High Commissioner for Peace in Colombia, Sergio Jaramillo, has today recognized the role carried out by the late Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, and the role of Cuba in achieving the end to the peace process in his country.

The government negotiator in the talks with the insurgent FARC-EP told Caracol Radio station today that Chavez had convinced the guerrillas that it was time to reach peace in the Andean nation.

The peace commissioner also recognized the seriousness and professionalism with which Cuba managed - as guarantor country and venue of the dialogue - the talks that will take the two sides to a final agreement.

Havana was vital in this process and gave its best diplomats, 'they put on their best facilities. Really, there was always exemplary prudence and care,' Jaramillo stated.
