January 17, 2012 |

HAVANA TIMES, Jan 17 — Dilma Rousseff, the president of Brazil, will travel to Cuba on January 31, which is why the foreign minister of that South American country is currently on the island, reported EFE.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Antonio Patriota began talks with Cuban authorities to prepare for the first official visit to the island by the Brazilian head of state. Later the chief diplomat will travel to Port au Prince to arrange for his president’s first official visit to Haiti.

The foreign minister is expected to meet today with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, in addition to tour the redevelopment of the western port of Mariel to assess the $800 million Brazil-funded project presently under construction.
