Venezuelan Opposition “Falling to Pieces” as Four Parties Withdraw Electoral Support

By TAMARA PEARSON

http://venezuelanalysis.com/news/7248

The representative of Vota Piedra, Leonard Chirinos, expressed his disagreement with Capriles’ government plan to the press; saying that the majority of parties in the opposition umbrella group, the United Democratic Roundtable (MUD) weren’t consulted.

He was referring to a secret opposition government plan revealed recently by opposition leader David de Lima. Unlike the plan that Capriles presented to the National Electoral Council (CNE) and was made public, the revealed one is much more neoliberal in nature and will see the deregulation of banks, opening up of the economy to more private investment, and the reduction of state funding for public services and communal council projects.

“We prefer to take a step back because we consider the current situation one that we don’t want, nor one that a large part of the population wants,” he said.

“We’re not calling for people to vote against Capriles, nor against any other candidate, we’re withdrawing from the ballot because we can’t tolerate this polarised system that they want to set up in Venezuela,” Chirinos added.

From the article:

He also denounced today that he had received a lot of threats and “psychological pressure” from the opposition. He also said that he had been called a “traitor” and his family told that “they are going to burn us alive”.

~snip~

Since De Lima released the real opposition plan, opposition legislator William Ojeda has also spoken out, criticising a “hidden agenda” within the MUD, and was expelled from his party A New Time (UNT) a few hours later.

The right wing is slimy everywhere it parasitically embeds itself, like a cancer.

It definitely shows in the faces of the people in the crowds, too. There's no substitute for that.

There is a gulf of difference between him and someone who doesn't really have the people's interests at heart. The people know the difference.

He comes across sometimes as a bit arrogant and cocky, but I think he's genuinely proud of the changes in Venezuela for the people, and doesn't really give a rat's behind who it bothers. Of course, that makes the success of it all even harder for those who see social progress and human rights issues as obstacles to private wealth and ownership, but I love it.

Venezuelan Opposition Economic Plan to Roll Back Public Services Revealed

.......Ex-governor of Anzoátegui state, David de Lima, was one of those who received a copy of the document.

In comments to Venezuelan television on Wednesday, the political independent said “there are two discourses [in the Capriles campaign], there is the economic discourse that’s used to get votes, and the real one, that aims to place the economic policy of the country back in the hands of the two or three sectors that always controlled it”.

The government’s price control measures, implemented in 2011 in order to combat the adverse effects of inflation and hoarding are described as “absurd” in the document, which states that the measures produce “fear and anxiety in the productive private sector”. All price control mechanisms would be eliminated within a year.

Finally, the plan says that it would consider using the power of presidential decree in order to “dismantle the socialised and collectivised state model that has been created by the so-called revolution”.

Private bankers and members of Venezuela’s business association, FEDECAMARAS, will be invited to the next MUD meeting to discuss the party’s potential economic policy further.

Wow ..... if they win this and do to Venezuela what they're proposing in this 'hidden' document, it will be a nightmare, and right back to the poverty and inequality before Chavez. These people are evil!

Interestingly, Chavez was quick to come out with a statement to the effect that neither he nor his campaign had anything to do with the defections.

In addition, [Chavez] said that their structure is like ‘rice with mango’, a mix of many different ideas.’They have no unity, no defined program, only personal interest.
In recent days there have been reports that opposition member William Ojeda has come out against the MUD’s “hidden agenda” (detailed in a report leaked a couple of weeks ago), which includes plans for extensive privatisation and a return to the neoliberal policies of the 80s and 90s should Capriles Radonsky prevail.

It seems that in spite of the best (and worst) efforts to the contrary, the wheels are coming off the MUD’s campaign. Perhaps a track record of honestly working to improve the lives of voters counts a bit more than empty rhetoric and dirty tricks. At least in Venezuela.
