More than 1,500 Homicides in Sinaloa, Mexico in 2017


Mexico, Jan 3 (Prensa Latina) Despite the deploy of Mexican federal and state forces in the state of Sinaloa -northwest from the Mexican capital- a total of 1,561 people were murdered in 2017, 399 more than the previous year, said the local authorities Wednesday.

The Assistant Secretary of Public Safety and Social Reintegration, Lieutenant Colonel Cristóbal Camarillo, released these figures in a joint press conference with authorities of the Public Security Secretariat of Culiacán, the state capital.

He said that the number of homicides in Sinaloa, increased in 34.3 percent, but the national standard in Mexico incerased in 43 percent.

The month of May, was the most violent in more than 5 years, with a record of 183 murders, only excelled by April 2011, when 277 homicides took place.

So that's about 50 homicides per 100,000 people or 10 times higher than the US average.
