Brazil's Temer announces 'intervention' in state bordering Venezuela

SAO PAULO/BRASÍLIA (Reuters) - Brazil’s President Michel Temer said on Friday he had reached an agreement with Roraima state Governor Suely Campos for a federal “intervention” in the state that borders Venezuela.

Temer said via Twitter that he and the governor came to the conclusion that a negotiated intervention would be the best solution to “pacify” the situation in Roraima.

Waves of Venezuelan migrants have been entering the border area in recent months, seeking refuge from poverty and hunger in the neighboring country. The thousands of refugees are straining public services and the state’s finances.

On Thursday, police officers and agents in Roraima’s prisons called for a strike protesting delays in salary payments.

invades the oil-rich nation of Venezuela, with Trump/US support ...

Brazil wants to subsume Venezuela, and claim its riches for itself. And teh GOP will ALL FOR the idea of a fascist, US-business-friendly dictator taking over the 'socialist' Nation of Venezuela.

1. The entire VZ infrastructure is a shambles.
2. Brazil has its own oil.
3. The Brazilian and Venezuelan cultures are entirely different.

Whatever Bolso's and Brazil's problems are, he sure as Hell isn't going to compound them by invading a neighbor that Brazil has never taken issue with. (It is estimated that the 20 years of Chavismo disaster will take at least another 20 or more, and multi-trillions of dollars to undo.)

The Chavistas have spent the last 20 years giving refuge to terrorist groups (FARC, ELN) within Venezuela's borders and now that has come back to bite Venezuela on the ass, as these groups are terrorizing Venezuelans.

Secondly, the Essequibo region of Guyana. Venezuela periodically rattles its fake "Bolivarian swords" about retaining lost glory and taking half of Guyana due to some perceived outrage from 150-200 years ago. If anyone is going to start some shit, its Venezuela. The FANB is constantly sending military helicopters over border towns with Colombia to provoke. How the Hell do you not know you are over the border when its your job to stay on YOUR SIDE OF THE BORDER?

Maduro and his Castroist puppeteers whinge constantly about invasions... THEY WOULD LOVE A MILITARY INVASION! They are BEGGING for one. It would give them the out they so desperately desire. They have fucked up an entire country that was once the envy of Latin America.

I was being overly dramatic there, my bad.

I sense though the stage may be being set for some kind of multi-lateral (with full US backing ... maybe even getting the UN to go along) 'intervention' and 'regime change' scenario there. That country is way weakened, US has sanctions on it, they're accused of 'harboring terrorists' (as you just did), etc. Plus it has a F***TON of Oil reserves, and you know where most of that oil goes first (when there is any)? Gulf Coast refineries. The big US oil refiners want that oil back on the market.

I just see a 'perfect storm' shaping up that very much reminds me of the Iraq situation here.

And I'd damn sure bet Trump's fascist buddy Bolsonaro will be fully onboard, and very willing to commit troops.

We'll see what shakes out.

PS, I'm not at ALL saying VZ isn't way screwed up.

The last thing anyone wants in the region is any sort of military intervention.

Change has to come internally from Venezuela. As a matter of fact, even die hard Chavistas are bailing out*... though there are plenty who insist that it can be salvaged if the right figurehead can come to power. IMO it is way beyond that.

Right now what is needed is humanitarian aid that the Chavistas will NOT let into Venezuela, unless that aid is currency (that they then filter through various shell companies run by Chavismo). That aid needs to be aimed at the border areas of Brazil and Colombia, because Colombia and Brazil cannot cope with the influx pouring across the borders.
