Twitter users have been calling for a boycott of Goya Foods, a family-owned brand of Hispanic food, after CEO Robert Unanue's lavish compliment to U.S. President Donald Trump during a visit to the White House on Thursday.
"We're all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder," said Unanue while making a speech at the White House, standing along the U.S. president.
"We have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president, and we pray for our country, that we will continue to prosper and to grow," the CEO continued to say.
The speech was made while announcing a plan to donate one million cans of Goya chickpeas and one million pounds of food to food banks. But soon after, Twitter users launched a boycott campaign against him using the hashtag #Goyaway.
Julian Castro, mayor of San Antonio, retweeted the video clip of Unanue's speech while calling on American people to think twice before buying Goya Foods products, since their CEO is praising "a president who villainizes and maliciously attacks Latinos for political gain."
