The Archbishop of Aparecida (180 km from SP), Dom Orlando Brandes, stated that "to be a beloved homeland, it cannot be an armed homeland". The phrase was said during mass this Tuesday (12), at 9 am, the main celebration at the National Shrine of the Day of Aparecida on this Day of Our Lady.

"Today is Children's Day. Let's embrace our poor and also our authorities so that together we can build a beloved country in Brazil. And in order to be a beloved homeland, it cannot be an armed homeland," said Dom Orlando Brandes. The Archbishop of Aparecida referred to the slogan used by Jair Bolsonaro "Pátria Amada Brasil". The clergyman criticized what he called a "gun child", in reference to recent photos of the president with young people holding guns, and also criticized consumerism.

The cleric also made a warning about the hate speech and false news during his speech at mass on Tuesday. "And to be a beloved homeland, be a homeland without hate. To be a beloved homeland, a homeland, a republic without lies and without fake news, without corruption. It is a homeland loved with fraternity. All brothers building the great Brazilian family," he said.

(Archbishops can get assassinated, as in El Salvador, with the late Archbishop Romero, protesting brutal governments.)
