Latin America
Related: About this forumConcerning the Oscar given tonight to "Women Talking," concerning Mennonites in Bolivia,
here's a thread posted in 2009, when the story the film is based upon started breaking more publicly, and US Americans started hearing about the strange era the Mennonite women in Bolivia were experiencing when they finally started confiding in each other that they had been raped during night times by intruders in their homes.
This thread, along with assorted gibbering, has interesting links with articles, and pictures from good sources in it, as well as the last entry from "rabs" which offers a 9 minute video on the Mennonite community in Bolivia, which is very interesting. (The poster, whom I'd known since 2000, on the old CNN message board system in a section on US/Cuban relations, who had worked as a Latin America correspondent for the U.P.I. News Agency, prior to the Sun Myung Moon purchase, and was still very reputable) dropped the video here, where he posted a short time before his death.)
Learning that the Oscar went to that production was interesting, knowing how very long it was between the trauma the women endured, and this very well done, noted film. The truth did win out!
