Kerry, Kerry, Kerry!

That man had to start off running as SoS. He's had a lot of challenges, and I do believe he's been doing his job as President Obama's choice wonderfully!

Rock on, Mr. Kerry!

Just wanted to share that, friends. It's been awhile.

he has been doing a stunning job.
He really has been superb.
His press conference in London today was almost a work of art.. the careful choice of words, the six hours of talk with Lavrov that preceded it..
Just fantastic. Very nervous about the situation in Ukraine, but SO grateful that our SoS is on the case.

Sorry, I can't say I'm a huge fan overall - but then, my eye focuses mostly on the middle east. Still, he's getting there, and doing a sensible enough job with Ukraine. And he's got some time to work back up to where he was when I voted for the man

"Tepid" is better than "cold," yeah?

I still remember your birthday cards we all signed.

This is a job that he was born for -- in one of the most troubled times the world has seen. Even though I have always been impressed by him, I am astonished on his ability to react diplomatically - even when others don't. If there is a way to contain the potential violence in Ukraine, I am confident he will work with anyone to make it happen.

and they were then presented to Senator Kerry, at a gathering of supporters before his Birthday party in Boston. This goes back a few years, but the cards were very personal, and everyone penned heartfelt sentiments on them .

And joining you all in that good old chant those of us here have never abandoned. I've been so inspired by JK ever since 2004, but I never dreamed I could be as impressed by him and his work than I am now. He's only doing what he's always done, all his life, he hasn't changed, but he is the man we need for this work. He is applying his experience, knowledge, ethics and care for his country (and now its affairs on the world stage) to problems that need solving, storms that need calming, people who need to hear compassionate, reasoned analysis and thoughtful solutions. He is the ideal diplomat and I know he will always do his very utmost to deter disaster.

"Clinton, 66, went over her own history, talking about some of the steps she had taken in the peace process while serving as secretary of state for President Barack Obama and steps to increase international pressure on Iran.

"I pursued the peace negotiations in large measure because I think the status quo is unsustainable, and I want to do everything I can ... to keep testing, to keep pushing," she said."

I seem to remember that Hillary did not get directly involved because they would not be fruitful. Interesting that she is even using the basic reason Kerry has spoken of. Completely forgotten is that the Clinton allied media were part of the group that argued that Kerry had no chance of restarting talks.

My view:
I knew working in a large corporation that one of the most thankless jobs was to follow one of the fast track people. If you could not fulfill some pie in the sky object vaguely projected from them - it was up to you to defend why not. In addition, like here, credit will be taken for things done by the successor as having started under them.

Add to that as the inevitable Democratic nominee, no one will challenge this.

Posting here to blow off steam that would get me in trouble if posted on the same article in Politics 2014.

She was a lousy SOS, and no BS now will change my opinion of her work. But, somehow, this coming from Clinton is not a surprise. She will ride his coattails as long as the ride is up, but if something goes wrong, she will be out there saying she knew better.

I would think that his only value as a VP would be with a nominee who is seen as young, not too experienced and having limited foreign policy experience. (like Biden for Obama - where Biden had the additional being as mid America as it gets.)

It is near certain that Clinton will be the nominee. It is not clear what Kerry could bring to her ticket. In addition, the role of VP is defined by the President - other than being second in line and breaking votes in the Senate. I don't see what he would get out of it - I assume he prefers being SoS. (Biden was already considered too old to be considered as Obama's successor - Kerry is one year younger than Biden.)

Add the personal side - he would have to step down as SoS, because a SoS can not be involved in political campaigns. Teresa's health has been shaky, though she has been recovering. I would bet that when 2017 comes, Kerry will graciously retire after a very long career of public service.

He is a remarkable person - likely the best of his generation and though he might have made an exceptional President, it is likely not going to happen.
