I'm new to being active in a political group

registration and calling and belonged to my local Democratic Club. I even served as a delegate to our party's
state convention.

But, I am getting older and I'm not very enthusiastic about Obama and the Blue[-Dog slant of the party. So,
I'm not so active now.

But I can tell you about my experiences. It was great fun, but you have to be a good listener, and you have to be
sincerely interested in the other person and his or her point of view to succeed in political activism.

politics is where the 'rubber really hits the road'. On my 3 seasons porch I always keep literature on candidates and I always keep a voters registration form. Whenever the UPS man, mailman, yardman, etc come, I always hand them some literature. During the election cycle, I walk my neighborhood and pass out literature for Democratic candidates and also registration forms. I also keep a supply of forms for absentee voting and I keep a list of precincts in the WP area because the municipal polling sites are different from the general election polling sites. I try to keep abreast of all the issues here in Winter Park, the state, and the nation. This means reading 3-5 newspapers a week, watching TV and staying informed. Most of all I try to get the candidates to come to my house for coffees, wine and cheese parties, etc. and invite my neighbors.

Does this take time? Yes, but I feel that I am helping my neighbors and my community because it helps them stay informed too.

on behalf of your candidates. You may want to talk with your local party and candidate campaigns to offer your help with lit drops or whatever in your precinct. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from you!
