Apple revenue hits record; $37.4 billion in quarter

sfgate.com / July 23, 2014

Apple reported a record $37.4 billion in revenue in its third quarter, as sales continue to climb for iPhones and Macs.

Profit rose 20 percent to $1.28 per share, up from $1.07 a year ago. Revenue increased 6 percent, the Cupertino company said.

The earnings were a mixed bag for investors, with at least one analyst wondering how the company will fare in the second half of the year, including the crucial back-to-school and holiday shopping seasons, with no new iPhone models or the rumored "iWatch" yet. Apple beat analyst expectations for profit, but missed on revenue.

The company continued to show strong performance in iPhones. Apple reported that it sold 35.2 million iPhones in the quarter, up 13 percent compared with the same period a year ago.
