China softening on trade war?

From Asia Pacific News:

China's Xi announces plans to 'open' China, including lowering tariffs on imported autos

Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed plans to further open up the Chinese economy during a Tuesday address.

Those measures included lowering import tariffs for autos and other products, enforcing the legal intellectual property of foreign firms, and improving the investment environment for international companies.

1. I was certain China does not want a trade war

with the $500 Yearly trade surplus with United States.
This is good news because a trade war will hurt both
countries, and it will hurt China much more.

2. We're going to have to listen (or read) 45 taking credit.

It would be sad if his "foreign policy" actually works and North Korea gives up its nukes, China gives in to 45. If he is successful over the next year with a booming economy and foreign leaders kowtowing to him he'll be reelected.

5. China is holding how much US debt? Trade pares with that.

6. Do you remember why Walmart is world's biggest retailer?

Because Mr Walton taught his employees his mantra "Customer is king!".

China is well aware who their best customer is. China is not stupid enough to cut off the ears to spite the nose by making their best customer mad. Take it to the bank.

7. As I said, trade is nothing compared with the US debt China holds.

China doesn't care to take a few lumps because China knows they are holding all the Aces.

8. You are wrong again!

US debt to China was $1.2 trillion as of November 2017.
And China has stopped buying US Bonds!

The trade deficit to China is $0.5 Trillion EVERY YEAR.
Do the math. If you are mathematically challenged,
the debt to China is less than 3 years trade deficit.

Conclusion: Debt is nothing compared to growing imbalance of trade EVERY YEAR, YEAR AFTER YEAR.

3. Xi is clever

Give Trump a "win" and move along. Hell, Carrier figured that out early.

4. Yap, You have a valid point

Same tactics NKorea has been using for 3 decades
NK sits down to talk compromise, get some money as reward for good behavior, then keep on doing what they really want to do. They promised to stop nuclear ambitions way back during Bill Clinton admin, and look where they are now.

China will do exactly same thing.
