Dunkin Donuts, the iconic, 68-year-old coffeehouse released a statement Tuesday indicating the brand would simply be known as Dunkin come January.
By simplifying and modernizing our name, while still paying homage to our heritage, we have an opportunity to create an incredible new energy for Dunkin, both in and outside our stores, said chief marketing officer Tony Weisman.
The new look is an effort by the 12,000-store chain to remain relevant amid fierce fast-food competition. New signage will eventually replace old Dunkin Donuts logos. The company rolled out its catchy tagline America Runs on Dunkin in 2006 and received positive feedback about the shortened name.
Dunkin franchises can be found in 36 different countries, including 900 in South Korea which has three times as many doughnut shops than McDonalds. There are no remaining Dunkin Donuts in Canada as competitor Tim Hortons dominates doughnut sales.

(38,958 posts)Air conditioned office in some ivory tower, by someone trying to make a name for themselves. Not that I patronize Dunkin Donuts 🍩, but the places will be called by that name long after whoever came up with this idea is long gone.

(10,154 posts)And we finally got a Dunkin Donuts here about a year ago. All excited I went a week after they opened when I had to kill some time after a hospital visit at about 6:30 AM. I went there to get my favorite chocolate, chocolate fresh donut.
I have never been so absolutely disappointed than I was with that hard, dry, lump of carbohydrates. It literally made a knocking noise on my table if you tapped it on the edge. I couldn't believe the guy behind the counter had the nerve to offer another piece of hard crap. Since then, I have visited other Dunkin Donuts and their donuts were fresh and soft. So, why this place can't make the donuts fresh is beyond me.
