Quote for the Day:

What happens if you spend decades focused on appealing to white voters and treating nonwhite voters with, at best, benign neglect? You get good at doing what it takes to appeal to white voters. That is the truth that led to what is famously called “the southern strategy.” That is the path that leads you to becoming what the Republican Party now proudly embraces: a white grievance party.

Stuart Stevens. It Was All a Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump. Alfred A. Knopf. (c) 2020.

of January 3 (bear markets begin at 20% down).

Technically we've been in a bear market since we first reached that milestone (3838) in June and won't be out of it until we reach a new all time high.

But we've haven't closed below 3838 since July 18. Until today.

S&P 500 All time high: January 3: 4797.

20% below that is 3838 "Munich Munich"

(easy to remember, "Munich Munich" since 1938 was the year of the Munich agreement with Hitler and Peace For Our Time)

Today's close (Wednesday Sept 21): 3790

Tomorrow morning is going to suck, too, but then the bargain hunters will come out and it will start to recover, barring any more bad news. It's not the end of the world as we know it, that's going to take a bigger event than a 0.75% Fed rate hike.
