Part time job in Chicago or Washington D.C.
We are looking for a part-time (10-15 hours/wk) Communications Assistant to join our team. Amy B. Dean is a Fellow of the Century Foundation, former CEO of the South Bay Labor Council, AFL-CIO, and co-author of A New New Deal: How Regional Activism Will Reshape the American Labor Movement. As president of ABD Ventures, Dean also practices organizational development and strategy for progressive and labor organizations. Dean maintains a brisk schedule of writing and publishing for print and online newspapers and magazines, both progressive and mainstream.
The Communications Assistant will serve in a key capacity for Amy Dean's team: this person will spread the word about Dean's work among our Internet and real-life communities. They will build relationships with and reach out to key online news and media outlets to promote Dean's written work and organizational strategy practice.
The ideal candidate is someone who: can stay organized; takes the initiative to offer updates or ask questions; has a background or interest in progressive politics; stays tenaciously on a task and will do everything needed to complete it; has experience with new and social media and email outreach; can shift gears cheerfully between online and offline tasks.
The successful candidate will be values-driven, self-motivated, detail oriented, resourceful, and be able to shift gears quickly. S/he will be able to work effectively in a virtual office environment: that is, mainly using telephone and Skype. A key feature of the job is staying in constant touch with other team members to update them on the progress of tasks.
Primary Responsibilities
Expand and manage Deans presence on Facebook, Twitter, other key
progressive sites and blogs
Repost Dean's articles around the web and keep track of readership
analytics
Maintain relationships with our communities by engaging them in
conversations on our work and relevant issues
Provide a weekly report on progress of reposting efforts, email opens and
social media stats
Produce and send emails to Dean's list
Manage and build Dean's email list
Manage Deans relationship with external blogs and online news and media
outlets to promote Dean's written work
Track statistics to improve effectiveness of online organizing,
communication & marketing efforts
Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills
1-3 years of organizing (online or offline), campaigning or communications
experience
Excellent person-to-person communication skills
Up to date experience in social media
Experience engaging and building communities on social networks, particularly Twitter, Facebook, and the Blogosphere
Some experience with composing and sending mass emails using a current mass emailing tool such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact
Skills to build and maintain relationships with bloggers and key online outlets
Position starts immediately.
