WASHINGTON - A group of more than 100 Wal-Mart workers from stores in northern California, Miami, Boston, Denver and elsewhere started an extended strike on Memorial Day against the retail giant.
And they formed a caravan of upset workers who descended on company headquarters and its annual meeting in Arkansas on June 1.
In a telephone press conference, three leaders of the group explained they had to step up to the longer strike after the retailer known for its low prices, low wages, lousy benefits and virulent anti-worker stands brushed off prior one-day walkouts.
The group of 100 include leaders of Our WalMart, which is working for change in the stores from the inside. Their allies include American Rights at Work, Jobs With Justice and Wake Up WalMart, a union-backed organization dedicated to educating consumers about the retail monsters abuses.
