Verizon RIF today, tomorrow and next week

Just in case anyone is looking out there for info - maybe this will show up in online searches.

I know wireline is safe due to their contract negotiations - so just wireless impacted. Im hearing Irvine was a blood bath today. Schaumberg taking big hits and Alpharetta tomorrow. No word on IT groups - think they are safe. Morristown not hearing anything. Supposedly Lake Mary will take hits but I can't imagine why - isn't that center of excellence? Like Tulsa?

I also know I've lost two key contacts in the West Area. But they were let go yesterday before the Stratton meeting.

VPs /Exec Directors in areas were informed of their own layoffs earlier this week.

To those gone today and who found out earlier this week - my heart goes out to you and your families. I've been part of a massive RIF in the past - and the fear of the unknown is the worst part.

To those still there - here we go. 'Twas the millenials and IOT that killed the beast.

The mall one? I've only been there once. I don't thinking that specific office was Alltel. This one used to have the best damn fraud reps a few years ago.

There was a woman who had a tiny version of my big product who worked from home in FL. It was pulling teeth to make sure she stayed. She awesome white glove service ideas. I thinks she's moving to Ireland now. That's where some folks are going on 2-3 year contracts.

horrible to have to go to the V campus to do work for them. I lost a lot of friends in that deal. Good old Scott Ford thought he could trust Goldman Sachs to do him right.

Its a burgeoning piece of the commerce cycle - that I can use in government or business - doesn't have to be telecom. And I can use it anywhere in the world.

The model never made sense.

It's going to change rapidly. We moved from subsidized model to "leasing" model industry wide very quickly. My mom's near 70 . . . Wants to buy her device outright. Says its too much like renting the phone on the wall.

In their rush to get millenials - I think our boomers are actually going to pull the industry over the finish line. They get the value of prepaid (that handset is mine outright) and they don't like to be tethered to one company. Leasing or 'renting' is a step backwards by about 30 years for these folks.

GoPhone. Super cheap and I get almost 1/2 of the purchase price back when I sell it. When we got spun off, I decided never to go with Alltel again, hence Verizon either. Take care, hope you keep dodging the bullet.

Windstream offered offered a severance package back in 2013 to select employees. You had to apply for it, be approved by manager, 2nd level manager and director. I was the only on in Arkansas that got it. 6 months pay with full benefits and just turned 65.. What luck.
I did find out later on that the CEO at that time put me on for it. I was their telephone guy and took care of the phone and data needs. So it helps to be nice.

They are 2/3 year contracts.

More like 10% tax in Ireland.

There are limits though as the charter is for only in the US. These are purchasing functions in play.

International is a carrier agreement environment - not direct.

Verizon to Reduce Number of Regional Offices, Cut Jobs

Verizon Communications Inc., the largest U.S. wireless carrier, informed employees Wednesday that its wireless operations will be reorganized and that there will be an unspecified number of job cuts.

The company’s 20 regional offices will be reduced to six, Verizon spokesman Jim Gerace said Wednesday. He said some jobs will be eliminated though declined to say how many. Sales and store employees won’t be affected, he said.

Verizon, which had a workforce of 177,900 as of the end of the third quarter, is seeking to cut costs as U.S. households give up their traditional home phones in favor of mobile technology.

The company gets about 29 percent of its revenue from landlines, and is investing in wireless and Internet-delivered content. Last month Verizon introduced go90, a free mobile video service with shows aimed at teens. In 2000, landline operations accounted for 67 percent of revenue.

Verizon to consolidate regional operations and slash jobs as a result

Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) plans to cut management positions as it consolidates its regional offices to speed up decision-making and get employees closer to customers. However, it's unclear how many layoffs will come as a result of the changes.

According to Blomberg, Verizon told employees yesterday that it will reorganize its wireless operations. Verizon will cut the number of its 20 regional offices down to six, Verizon spokesman Jim Gerace told Bloomberg. Gerace said some jobs will be cut though declined to say how many.

Verizon will cut management positions but said sales and retail store employees won't be affected by the changes. "We are constantly working to evolve our operations to best support our customers' changing needs," Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson told FierceWireless.

This isn't the first time Verizon has reduced the number of its regional offices to reduce organizational complexity. However, the new changes come as Verizon has said its full-year 2016 earnings may plateau at 2015 levels as the company manages "near-term impacts." Those include the shift away from subsidized smartphones and toward equipment installment plans (EIPs), year-over-year wireline financial comparisons following the expected first-half 2016 sale of some of its operations to Frontier Communications and the ramp up of new business models for wireless video and the Internet of Things.
