Whitney Tilson Turns Trayvon Martin Tragedy About Himself

http://www.southbronxschool.com/2012/03/whitney-tilson-turns-trayvon-martin.html

What happened to Trayvon Martin is nothing less than a tragedy. As a parent, I can't imagine what Trayvon's parents are going through and I hope I never will. As a person who is white I can't, nor will I ever, imagine what it must be to be an African-American male in this country, or just any African-American and have to deal with idiots like George Zimmerman.

But that is all I will say and can say, other than that my thoughts are of Trayvon Martin and what his family are going through. I don't have this burning need to make this all about me, all about what I am and what I do. However, there is one whitey in America that feels that he must make this about himself.

That person is Whitney Tilson, the Great White Hope for the boys and girls of color. Whitney, of course had to make this tragedy about himself and KIPP. Unfortunately, Whitney is no longer updating his blog (I wonder why?) and I only have the screen shot from his email, but here it is

Chatted for a bit. I knew of him because he got spectacularly hammered on his Netflix short...he bought back the short before nflx got crushed after their price increase fiasco. He did appear to have an ego, but was otherwise quite sociable and friendly.

I was in Central Park and a group of 10 of us or so most of whom knew each other decided to walk at night around the east meadow. He asked me why he had not seen me before and was outgoing. Toward the end of the walk he was describing the one time he spent time in jail - he was in Zimbabwe a year or two out of college touring around...but his visa was five days expired when he tried to leave and it caused some problems that even bribery failed to fix...until a family friend helped fix things. He then described in a joking way how the magistrate there announced "Whitney Tilson! You are free to go" - or something like that - in other words, he wanted it to be clear to me who he was. Hence the ego.
