(68,644 posts)A blogger who posts the content of their blog but never replies: this had become the bulk of posts in the Ed forum at DU2.
I had higher hopes.

(130,820 posts)Looks like just another ordinary discussion, w disagreements, to me.
I'm so glad people like you are still around!

(68,644 posts)Education is too important a topic to be left to people who can't host according to the SOP and general rules of civility.
I hope you fix it on your own but if you don't there are other ways it can be fixed.

(96,793 posts)I'm not going there.
When I agreed to host this group, I was contacted by several regular posters who were concerned about the teacher bashing and personal attacks which had become all too common on DU2. We've lost good members who grew tired of the negativity.
I'm not going there.
I asked mopinko twice in that thread to take her argument elsewhere. She responded by reporting her level of respect for me, which I felt was another personal attack.
I realize I had a choice. I could have just alerted and let a jury decide. But while I was carefully considering what to do, I had an inbox of accumulating PMs and emails asking for a block.
I'll leave this thread up until I go to bed tonight. But I'm then locking it. However, I don't believe I have to leave it up and I could lock it now. If the discussion gets out of hand, I will lock it.

(68,644 posts)I hope after you've slept on it you'll see the error of your ways and apologize and undo the harm that you've done to the DU education group.
You're out of line, and this kind of behavior from anyone, and from the host of a progressive discussion board in particular, is a gross embarrassment and the kind of thing that can only hurt educational progress.
Unbelievable.
Actually, you should probably step down as host and offer up a vote for somebody less inclined to abuse their power.
You were never a DU moderator, I'll bet.
Fix it.

(96,793 posts)My past experience as a mod or not has absolutely nothing to do with this controversy today.
I pinned that thread by mistake. Then I trashed it, thinking it would disappear, but now I see it only disappears on my page. So I don't know how to fix it and I'm not going to worry about that tonight. It certainly doesn't seem critical to anyone but you.

(55,144 posts)It's real simple to unpin.
Just click on SuperPowers and click on unpin.

(96,793 posts)thinking that would delete it on everyone's page. But it is only gone on mine.
So I can't see it.

(68,644 posts)You might have pinned the thread by mistake but blocking mopinko from the group is an action without any basis in rules or procedures.
And, frankly, blocking her and pinning the post makes it all look really really bad.
I think a different host would be a good thing for this group, education is too important and with anything important there are going to be arguments.
You can't just block someone from OUR group.
Sorry it didn't work out for you.

(96,793 posts)You haven't read mopinko's PMs to me. And you won't since I would be violating her privacy by posting them here.
They are not nice.
I've also been contacted via PM and email asking to block her.
Just now got a request to block you.
Yes this is OUR group. Not YOURs, lots of OURS here.

(68,644 posts)What you've written above is actually a bit of a breech of confidentiality.
Nonetheless, your behavior in the pinning and the locking and the blocking are, taken together or taken separately, grounds for replacement IMHO.
Let's assume that it's true that the pinning happened accidentally, and that mopinko asked you to block her.
We still have the locking of that thread for utterly no good reason at all.
Or was that an accident, too, or a request from the poster?
proud2BlibKansan
(96,793 posts)You're obviously confused and I'm sorry it I haven't been clear.
I've done my best to be fair.

(70,067 posts)really *****
you should be ashamed of yourself.
thank you for unblocking me. but really, these things should be going through the jury system, not the pm system.
look, there has been a lot of bad blood here, and it saddens me. i think on many issues we all agree. but i tell it like it is here in chicago. and how it has been for my kids. i wouldn't even bother mostly, except for the national import that what happened here has taken on in the last 3 years. and for that i have earned enemies.
i have never attacked any teacher here. i have never made it personal. i have never extrapolated chicago to any other place. i have gone out of my way to start threads about things i thought we could discuss and agree on. all to no avail.
i know that there are a few other members that have spent time banging their heads here, parents who take a different view. they are vilified. they don't bother any more. but at the same time, when the subject comes up about how to improve schools, the #1 suggestion is usually that parents need to step up. well, this little microcosm here is how it is when parents step up. people talk past each other. people cover their asses. people point fingers.
how good it would be to at least be able to rise above that sort of thing here.

(11,138 posts)That was a completely unreasonable request given that the post itself Mopinko was responding to is here, in this forum. Where else would you expect the response to be? If you felt Mopinko's response to you was a personal attack you should have let a jury decide that, and if they let it stand you should have too. Frankly I don't think expressing the level of respect you have for someone is a personal attack at all, but that is beside the point.
This isn't about taking anyone's side. This about allowing differing opinions to be discussed. You seem to want this forum to exist only as an echo chamber and I think that would be a huge mistake.
