MICHAEL GOVE IS OUT AS BRITISH EDUCATION SECRETARY!!!
Yay!
Problem is who will replace him; but I can't imagine that it could be worse. Gove is the worst we've had since Sir Keith Joseph. I know this won't be of direct relevance to most of you, but since you have Education Secretary trouble too, I though you might like to know.

1. Michael Gove moved to chief whip in cabinet reshuffle
He has been replaced by Treasury minister Nicky Morgan, as Mr Cameron promotes more women into top jobs.

2. We don't have "Education Secretary trouble" so much as "President of the United States trouble".

3. I think it's more that Cameron realizes that there's an election in 10 months' time
And is therefore sacking or moving some of his more unpopular ministers (Gove will now be Chief Whip, which somehow sounds appropriate the way he ran Education). Also the party is becoming increasingly unpopular with women voters, so he is appointing more women ministers, such as Nicky Morgan here.

4. One of the advantages of the parliamentary system, imo.
That wouldn't and couldn't happen here.
Ask 10 adults on the street here "Who is the United States Secretary of Education?" and 9 and 1/2 will not be able to identify him. |

5. Interesting that his policies are almost identical to Duncan's and Gove is a Tory.
At least Gove is the correct party for his ideology, over here we have to pretend Duncan is a liberal.
Anyone know anything about the new person? And does anyone think this reshuffle was a result of the huge public sector demonstration on the 10th? |

7. Interesting indeed
Though under Blair we had Education Secretaries David Blunkett and Charles Clarke, who were to the right of some Tories (though still to the left of Gove).
I don't think that the reshuffle has anything to do with the public sector strike - it had probably been planned for a while. Overall, the Cabinet's political balance has if anything been moved to the Right, even though Education is probably an improvement. |

8. Duncan and Gove, 2 of a kind.
Thanks for letting us know. My worst fear is that if Arne goes....someone worse will replace him.
