I'm disheartened.

I keep putting in the effort and love what I do, but I'm the only one responsible for the end results. If I work with a student and they don't do the work and their parents don't help, I'm still responsible. However, if I think the student should be held back due to the lack of effort from said student and/or parents, the parents can override my recommendation! Therefore, their child isn't ready for the next grade, but are passed by parents who leave all teachers in my district holding the check. Where is the accountability? Back to the grind.

1. I understand. I am an intervention teacher.

My colleagues tell me that research shows that overall retention does not help students academically. Life is short so enjoy the kids, bring them some love and light, and make learning as enjoyable as possible.
