MPs to Focus on Chevron-Affected Areas in Ecuador

Quito, July 17 (Prensa Latina) A mission of the European Parliament is continuing a visit to Ecuador so as to verify the damage caused by the US Multinational Energy Corporation Chevron (formerly Texaco), which is the reason for the trial carried out by the indigenous communities.

The parliamentary delegation, made up of Helmut Scholz and Lola Sanchez Caldentey from the political group GUE / NGL (European Left and Nordic Green Left), will pay a visit to the South American nation till Friday, according to El Telegrafo newspaper.

There will be tomorrow a visit to some fields that were operated by Texaco (now Chevron), which will allow them to confirm the level of pollution and the impact in such an area.

Chevron operated between 1964 and 1990 in the northwestern Ecuadorian Amazon. Each time it drilled a well, it did so by using the same technique.
