NV Energy looking for 330 MW of fresh renewables in Nevada
January 10 (Renewables Now)

Las Vegas-based NV Energy Inc on Tuesday issued a request for proposals (RfP) as it seeks to add up to 330 MW of renewable energy capacity, including energy storage, in its home state of Nevada.

Through this RfP, NV Energy is looking for solar, geothermal, wind, biomass and biogas technology projects and will, for the first time, consider adding batteries as well, it said in a news release. The sought 330 MW will be able to provide enough power to supply some 200,000 local homes.

"Since 2009, NV Energy has more than tripled its in-state renewable energy production and our electricity prices today are 15 percent lower than they were at that time. We expect these new projects to provide some of the lowest-cost renewable energy available in the market, which will directly benefit our customers,” commented CEO Paul Caudill.

While NV Energy’s ultimate goal is to become 100% renewable, the company’s short-term objective is to double its renewable energy delivery to customers by 2023, Caudill added.
