A dilemma: The simple versus the complex. GMO, Nuclear, Alt energy

I came to a realization today that I'm caught between two world views with no hands on way to make decisions that support either view. Arguments being made in this forum that are pro-gmo, pro-nuclear, anti-solar and anti-wind are becoming more persuasive. But how does the average guy steeped in basic pro solar and pro wind turn 180 degrees based on arguments in an online forum? Concise, well documented, reputable arguments... really? Maybe.

I'm one of those deeply concerned about our environment and the condition of the planet and fight for that cause daily with the premise that anything that is not fossil fuel is better. I'm beginning to believe that fossil fuel may not be the only power source detrimental to our planet and that nuclear fears are less- or un-founded. The idea that solar power, wind power, electric vehicles in a simple way of thinking are logical alternatives is ever present. But then maybe they are not logical in a more complex data environment. How am I to decide which view is true and which is false?

When it comes to politics it's a done deal; I know within reason what is fact and what is false. When it comes to alternative sources of energy the choice is not cut and dry. I'm faced with the dilemma of the simple versus the complex with little background to confidently take sides. Sadly and within this context I find myself in the same position of stupidity as a right wing Fox news junkie with a plethora of false but simple answers and a trickle of annoying wisdom closing in from all sides. As for me, I refuse to shut my mind to complex answers that shake my world view though I'm still confronted by decisions I'm not qualified to decide.

Faith in complexity? Ha, I won't go there... Trust in those more educated than myself opposed to following the main line trend? It seems I have no choice. So... I'll just keep listening... learning... and hope my meager personal influence is guided by reasonable trust.

Here is a great (free) online book that provides a very no-nonsense, fact-based treatment of the topic of energy (nothing in the book about GMO - can't help you with that). You can download the entire book as a .pdf and read it in about an evening - https://www.withouthotair.com/

U.A.E. Completes First of Four Korean-Built Nuclear Reactors

The United Arab Emirates, with help from Korea Electric Power Corp., finished building the Arab world’s first commercial nuclear reactor, a milestone in the oil-rich U.A.E.’s effort to curb its reliance on fossil fuels and develop cleaner sources of energy.

Unit 1 of the Barakah complex plans to begin loading fuel in May, South Korea’s energy ministry said in an emailed statement. South Korean President Moon Jae-in attended a ceremony on Monday to celebrate the facility’s completion, the U.A.E.’s official WAM news agency reported.

The U.A.E. is otherwise powered by dangerous climate-changing "natural" gas.
