Paccar rolls out zero emission electric Kenworth truck with Toyota at CES

Paccar Inc. showed off three zero emission electric big rigs at the annual Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.

The Bellevue-based global truck manufacturer exhibited two battery-electric Peterbilt trucks, but it was Paccar's third zero emission rig, a Kenworth T680 developed with Toyota and powered with a hydrogen fuel cell that attracted all the attention.

The Kenworth truck combines hydrogen gas and air to produce electricity, giving it a range of more than 300 miles under normal operating conditions.

Electricity powers the electric motors which move the trucks, while also charging lithium-ion batteries to optimize performance as needed, the companies said.

Paccar's Kenworth unit and Toyota Motor North America are collaborating to develop 10 of the zero-emission Kenworth T680s for a trial in Southern California.
