The first satellite designed to continuously monitor the planet for methane leaks made a startling discovery last year: A little known gas-well accident at an Ohio fracking site was in fact one of the largest methane leaks ever recorded in the U.S.

1. I am from that area and in the early 70s they were drilling

wells all over Belmont County. The wells sounded like 747s taking off. Reported to be super wells. When they finished drilling all the wells were capped and never another thing heard about them over 40 years.
A deep shaft coal mine in the same area emitted 24 million cubic feet of methane gas a day from 1971 until the mine closed around 1985. Was said that mine could supply the adjacent town of Cadiz with gas.
