http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/21/science/lack-of-nuance-diminishes-televised-wolf-hunt.html?ref=earthPREDATOR Several states, including Montana and Wisconsin, have sanctioned wolf hunts.
Here is a conundrum. I would be delighted to have Randy Newberg come to my yard and shoot the deer, woodchucks and rabbits that eat everything in sight.
But, I confess, my enthusiasm for watching him and his hunting partner, Matt Clyde, find and kill a wolf in two episodes of On Your Own Adventures is minimal. Nonexistent, really.
That may be partly because when he describes how the Montana hunting season on wolves finally came about, he mentions 15 years of frustration as a bunch of wingnut screwballs from wherever tell us how to manage wildlife.
The Sportsman Channel, a cable television network, has billed two episodes of this hunting show (one appeared last Thursday, and the conclusion is this Thursday) as not only the first televised wolf hunt in the lower 48 states but also equal parts education and adventure, a television event that tackles the issue of wolf management head-on.

(1,113 posts)I can't tell you how much I've been grieving about the decision to delist the Wolf. Knowing full well what that would mean, unleasing the bloodlust of hunters/ranchers towards the wolf. And it has been unleased. I am still angry with Salazar and the President (my President Obama) for allowing this. At the point when the bill was signed allowing the removal of the wolf from the ESA, I told my friends that I was not voting for Pres. Obama again. Of course I know there are too many other problems to be solved that we need Pres. Obama, but still..... I will be voting for my President, but with a heavy, heavy heart. I wish I knew what can be done to reverse this decision.

(16,020 posts)I can hardly bear to think about it. My husband hunts but only what we will eat. This is a travesty.
I wrote a bajillion letters encouraging protection for wolves while Bush was President. I still cannot believe I have had to continue to do so with Obama as President and that this has happened. I guess I will make another contribution to Defenders of Wildlife to see it they can further fight this in the courts. Really, it literally makes me tear up to read these news reports.
