Flooding emergency declared in Seward, Alaska

http://www.adn.com/2012/09/19/2631116/anchorage-braces-for-yet-another.html

Update, 3:40 p.m.: The City of Seward declared an emergency Wednesday after heavy rains flooded area roads and a landslide cut off access to a neighborhood.

Several area roads have been closed:

- As of 3 p.m. on Wednesday Lowell Point Road was closed due to a landslide.

- The National Park Service has closed Exit Glacier Road at mile 7.

- Port Road, parts of Dieckgraeff Road and Phoenix/Chiswell Road are also closed.

No evacuations due to flooding were mandatory as of 2:45 p.m., but people living in the Old Mill Subdivision west of Lost Creek can call the city's Emergency Operations Center for help at 224-4041.

In the past 24 hours the town has received 4.36 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service. Some 2.8 inches of rain has fallen in the last six hours alone.

Several flights have been diverted from anchorage to Fairbanks or turned back to Seattle. It's a mess here.

We've never seen anything like this. It's been like a low-level hurricane for over two weeks.
