Murderous poutine-eating scum. Capable of anything. It's the long Arctic nights that drive them insane.

...and even so, I'd rather send the money to Canada than Saudi Arabia

How about starting with much higher fuel mileage standards for cars - technology already exists, it is relatively cheap to do, but the auto industry is of course opposed.

The reality is we're not getting off oil any time soon, so we might as well obtain it in a way that provides us the most benefit and our enemies the least.

You will obtain "oil" from whoever will sell it to you cheapest. Canada, Saudi Arabia or Bakken shale - it makes precious little difference. And "cheapest" usually means "most successful at socializing the costs". Realpolitik has no conscience, just a checkbook and an agenda.

And where is all this oil you speak of that the can be drilled in the US and lower foreign oil consumption? Did you know that the US is already exporting gasoline and diesel to the EU? Producing oil here does not mean it stays here, it is sold as an international commodity to the highest bidder.
