CT State Rep. (GOP): How DARE State Government Consider Climate In Emergency Planning!!!

EDIT

Reached this afternoon, Coutu expressed skepticism about climate change, which he views as a faddish term embraced by the politically correct. "No I don’t believe global warming's occurring,'' Coutu said, "There's climate changes every year, there's weather changes."

Coutu, who described himself as an "extreme recycler" who has been doing it since the early 1990s, said he believes human beings can impact the environment. But he also said there's no "statistical proof from scientists" that human activity is causing warming temperatures. In fact, he said, some statistics indicate that the earth's climate is cooling. "I think global climate change has become more of a political term," he added.

The Two Storm Panel's report suggests otherwise. It states that rising sea levels brought on by a warming planet "raises serious concerns about the need to protect critical infrastructure along the coast and adjacent to rivers." Experts told the group that sea levels are expected to rise about 1.5 feet by the middle of the century and from 3 to 5 feet by the century's end.

Among the recommendations contained in the 39-page report is a provision that the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection develop a plan for for addressing sewer overflows and dam safety issues "in light of anticipated rising sea levels over the next 50-100 years." The panel also urged both DEEP and the state Department of Transportation to develop new engineering standards to "better protect the built environment from the effects of extreme weather."
