Oregon First State to Map GMO Crops

Oregon will become the first state to map GMO field locations across the state after an order from the governor last fall. They’re the first state to take such an action in an effort to mandate the coexistence of GMO and organic crops. While biotech companies are against the move, organic farmers say mandatory mapping could increase transparency on the issue. Oregon is now considered a focal point on the issue.

Three separate events have contributed to growing momentum around GMOs. On May 15, Oregon’s Right to Know launched a statewide campaign to require labeling of all GMO crops. Five days later southern Oregon’s Jackson and Josephine counties voted to ban the growth of GMO crops. On May 24, 6,000 people rallied in downtown Portland in the second annual March Against Monsanto.

“A lot of us are just beginning to understand what GMOs are,” says local mom and backyard gardener Susan Laarman. “It’s been kind of a secret.”

Where is the map? I don't see it in the links. Or maybe they're saying they are starting to do the mapping. It would be nice to see how the layout looks.

2. They are starting. The sad thing is, as the GMOs invade organic crops, this map will keep changing

until the GMO crops take over - if nothing is done about them. In some states, the GMO companies can successfully SUE the organic farmers whose crops have been infected with GMOs, because they are now in possession of GMOs, which are patented. When the farmers cannot afford the legal fees, they lose their land.
Really really fucked up.

It's disingenuous for farmers of "organic" crops to claim to be victims, when this has always been an issue for all crops.

8. Yes, all crops invade other crops. But Monsanto then fucking SUES the farmers whose crops get

contaminated, because they have been contaminated with patented GMO. That is the really really shitty thing about crops invading other crops. Fucking "patent infringement" if there is more than 1% contamination - as if the farmers had any say in the matter. Oh, and contamination is certainly the right word here.
And our corrupt SCOTUS says yes, Monsanto can sue and ruin the farmers.

The U.S. Supreme Court sided with Monsanto once again in issuing its January 13 decision on the landmark lawsuit, Organic Seed Growers and Trade Association et al v. Monsanto.

They denied organic farmers the right to argue their case in court - that if Monsanto's GMO seeds infect their crops, innocent farmers can't be sued for patent infringement.

Monsanto - totally greedy asshole.

9. It's also disingenuous for Monsanto defenders to paint this as an old problem.

The farmers are more than capable of handling the occasional stray weed.

They are not - thanks to the corrupt US administration - capable of
preventing the polluting companies from putting them out of business
as a result of those unwanted weeds.

The resident defenders (who may or may not be "shills" in the normal sense
of the word) are completely on the wrong side of the argument on this topic.

If anything, what's coming out in the anti-GMO movement today is a distortion of reality that ISN'T based on science but rather fear.

Lies, and damnable lies.

All distortions or citing studies where methodologies are ludicrous.

Assumptions based on nothing.

I look forward to the day when these Anti-Science asshats are in the same category as anti-vax fuckwits.

Global warming denier is the conservative anti-science magnet.

Anti-vax attracts the anti-science crowd from both wings.

Anti-GMO is the liberal anti-science magnet.
