2020 Olympic Games to shine green with hydrogen

The organizing committee for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games intends to include the utilization of hydrogen energy in a basic plan for the Games, according to sources.

To take advantage of the 2020 Games as a trigger for the realization of a hydrogen energy-oriented society, the committee aims not only to spread the use of hydrogen as a next-generation clean energy source, but also to promote Japans environmental technology to the rest of the world, the sources said.
A number of fuel cell vehicles that run on hydrogen will be introduced to connect the Olympic Village and each venue for athletes. In addition, the Tokyo metropolitan government is considering adopting fuel cell-powered buses for the bus rapid transit system and other new types of public transportation systems to connect the area around Tokyo Station and the waterfront area along Tokyo Bay...
