Germany 2012: Europe's largest Wasserstoff (Hydrogen) gas station opens in Hamburg (2014 Update)

Translation from original by translate.google.com

The station should be able to deliver 750 kg of hydrogen per day. Thus Vattenfall will continue to build a nationwide infrastructure.
Die Welt 02/17/12

Wasserstoff ist die Nummer 1 (Hydrogen is #1)

Material for 20 fuel cell buses and cars

Half of it is produced directly at the station by electrolysis of water using renewable energy on site, the other half is delivered. The system is able to supply up to 20 fuel cell buses in Hamburg elevated railway and numerous cars from different manufacturers with hydrogen daily.

The location of the new site on a Oberbaumbruecke has its advantages: You can watch the Hamburg tank operations and become familiar with the new technology.

"Hydrogen is for us an important memory technology to integrate the growing proportion of electricity from wind power and photovoltaics in the German energy system," said Pieter Wasmuth, chief representative of Vattenfall. The cost of the futuristic building in the amount of ten million euros share Vattenfall and the Federal Ministry of Transport.

Establishment of a hydrogen infrastructure in Germany

"The gas station is visible proof that sustainable mobility is already possible," said the Secretary Bomba. "After more than 100 years of combustion engines technological era in the transport becomes tangible." The major advantage of hydrogen and fuel cell technology is that it is clean, efficient and powerful...

2014 Update:

Insights into the future

On September 23, 2014 we open the doors to our hydrogen station in Hamburg's HafenCity - Vattenfall invites you to a live sneak preview of the future.

Experts explain what normally goes on behind closed doors: How do we turn water into hydrogen? How does the lightest element we know find its way into the fuel tanks of hydrogen buses and cars? And what role does hydrogen play in the energy revolution? You can see electrolysers, different types of storage facilities, compressors and, of course, the hydrogen fuel dispensers themselves. See how a hydrogen bus is refuelled!

For visitors to the industry fairs H2Expo & WindEnergy Hamburg we are offering a trip to the hydrogen station on a fuel cell hybrid bus, the hydrogen-powered "SauberBus" operated by HOCHBAHN. The bus leaves Hamburg Messe, Central Entrance (Eingang Mitte), at 2 pm and 4 pm on September 23. The tour lasts approximately 60 minutes.
