It's been 6 days since I stopped eating meat

I don't really miss it, which is strange because I honestly do love meat. But, like sugar and white flour, what I love isn't the same as what is good for me.

I still eat some local seafood.

I am hoping this will have positive health effects since I don't have insurance.

Tonight we are making Jambalaya.

Thank you to those of you who have recommended web sites and books to me

When I have tried to do that, I get hungry again almost as soon as I finish eating.

When I was tweaking my diet a few months back (I was already vegan, just trying to clean up my eating habits and to eat more reasonable portions) I was RAVENOUSLY hungry, until I realized that I just wasn't getting enough fat. Adding in some nuts and avocado totally cleared that up.

In fact I am eating less, which is a good thing. Take some time and figure out a shopping list and recipes before hand.

Some fellow DUers were awesome about answering questions and suggesting web pages and books.

If you are still hungry after that you have a giant worm in your gut sucking up everything you are chowing down. Skip the cheese and sour cream and take the guac.

Seriously, a meal of veggies, rice, and beans will fill anyone up.

I'm not so sure about that. There have been a few instances where I've terrified myself.

I've been a vegan since '89 and I have no issues with "constant hunger." None of my vegetarian friends seem to have such a problem either.

Unless you are eating empty calories.

I actually am "fuller" on a mainly plant-based diet (I eat some dairy).

I'm not sure if it is the eating or a coincidence but my extreme peri-menopause (screwy hormones) symptoms are vanishing. hot flashes are going away, hair is starting to grow again, as well as some other things on a more personal level.

Still eating no meat except an occasional piece of fish or shellfish.

vegetarian and she didn't really have any menopause, peri or other, symptoms even in her early 50s (but she had to have forced menopause for cancer treatment reasons).

Another sister who is a meat eater had wicked peri-menopause symptoms.

I'm younger than they are by a great deal (second marriage baby for both my parents) but hopefully a vegetarian diet will have the same benefits.

I know your experience is by no means a 'scientific' result, but still nice to know...

Glad you're still feeling good in all other ways w/o 'land animal' meat.

I stopped eating meat around the time of the Gulf Oil spill. I still eat too much sugar and junk food. But on the says when I have eaten only fruit, grains, and veggies my mood is better and I feel physically better.
