Richard O'Barry the man who captured and trained the dolphins for the television show "Flipper"
and Louie Psihoyos from National Geographic and a team of specially selected crew members, filmed the feature-length documentary The Cove. Released in 2009, the film aims to bring worldwide attention to the yearly killing of dolphins in Taiji, Wakayama, Japan. Unable to acquire permission from the Japanese government, the filmmakers filmed secretly during 2007 using underwater microphones and high-definition cameras disguised as rocks.

The documentary won the U.S. Audience Award at the 25th annual Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. It was selected out of the 879 submissions in the category

For an advanced and modern culture, they certainly have odd attitudes toward marine mammals.

Not that we're perfect, far from it.
