I can’t freely express my views on this topic because people will want to club me to death. But maybe here I can sneak in that once most people thought slavery was fine.

there are ways to discern what eggs are in fact from free range birds who have unlimited access to food, water and the outdoors if one cares to research it. I raise laying hens so most of the year we have wonderful eggs. When they aren't laying, during the dark winter months, local cruelty free eggs are easily sourced. It's a little more work but it can be done.
