Likely sole gunman in Munich attack was German-Iranian: police chief

The likely sole gunman in a deadly shooting in Munich was an 18-year-old German-Iranian who had both German and Iranian citizenship, Munich Police Chief Hubertus Andrae told reporters on Saturday.

He said the motive for the shooting was not clear, and despite earlier reports, there was no sign of any additional shooters involved in the incident.

The gunman killed nine people, including some youths, before apparently killing himself, Andrae said. Sixteen people were injured in the attack, including three who were in life-threatening condition and several children.

Iranians are mostly Shia whereas ISIL, if you can call them anything are Sunni's and the two don't get along.

but I don’t believe Iran has ever been linked to al-Qaeda. I don’t understand why that would even be relevant either. The M.O. of this attack doesn't fit with Hezbollah, nor al-Qaeda so I guess we'll have to see what the investigation turns up.

e.g. in obtaining the weapon? a lot of the other lone wolf attackers had people giving them weapons, money, logistical support, which suggests a modus operandi for bad guys to use unstable people as weapons.
