Leaders of the Russian-led breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine called on all eligible men to take up arms to defend their territory, escalating tensions that could trigger a full-scale war as the government in Kyiv reported that one of its soldiers had been killed by separatist fighters.
Denis Pushilin, head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk Peoples Republic Saturday ordered the general mobilization of men aged between 18 and 55 years old, including reservists, telling them to report to enlistment offices.
I appeal to all the men of the Republic, who are able to hold weapons in their hands, [to] stand up for their families, their children, wives, mothers, Mr. Pushilin said in a televised address. Together we will achieve the desired and necessary victory for all of us.
Leonid Pasechnik, leader of the Luhansk separatist statelet of Ukraines Donbas region Saturday issued a similar order.

He also wants NATO to stop threatening Russia.

It is the other way around.
Putin wants the old Soviet Union back.
I had friends in the Army and Air Force before the wall came down in West Germany.
We had troops in Europe for a reason.
Nobody wants to be under Putin.

(6,509 posts)"They're expecting a Ukrainian invasion." These are not independent from Ukraine. And, they are not part of Russia. Whatever happens, this is Russia's fault for meddling.
