The European Union has warned that Belarus could start hosting Russian nuclear weapons after a very dangerous decision at a referendum to drop the countrys non-nuclear status.
We know what does it mean for Belarus to be nuclear. It means that Russia will put nuclear weapons in Belarus and this is a very dangerous path, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.
The move by Belarus came as the country was being condemned internationally for being used as a launchpad by Russian forces to attack neighbouring Ukraine.
Borrell slammed the fake referendum on constitutional changes. The amendments allow the country to host nuclear weapons and Russian forces permanently. It also extended the rule of leader Alexander Lukashenko.

(2,016 posts)who is scared shitless over this? This is a big scary deal. Besides subs, is there anywhere else russian land based nukes are bordering a NATO country? Plus this is a bee line into the likes of Estonia, Lithuania etc. Maybe being raised during the cold war is making me paranoid but I'm slowly getting more and more nervous about nukes. (Theyre probably already there, tactical anyway)

(3,334 posts)That will be Putin's answer if he puts nuclear weapons in Belarus. Just like the US had to pull its nuclear missiles out of Turkey when Russia put them in Cuba. Most likely they will be tactical nuclear weapons.

(3,334 posts)That was Khrushchev's answer to Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. If the US could have missiles in Italy and Turkey, he could have missiles in Cuba. Do you disagree with my take on the Cuban Missile Crisis? I was a Russian linguist in the 528th Military Intelligence Company at Fort Meade at that time.

(3,334 posts)My VA psychiatrists have told me that what I did in the army did not cause my problems, but I am 100% service-connected anyway for other psych problems. When my mother died, my father, my sister, all my aunts, and all my uncles, I never shed a tear. I have never missed anyone who has died or gotten sick. It just doesn't bother me and there isn't anything I can do about it.
