Palestinians are fighting for their lives; Israel is fighting for the occupation

http://www.haaretz.com/opinion/.premium-1.679129

That we notice there’s a war on only when Jews are murdered does not cancel out the fact that Palestinians are being killed all the time.

Yes, this is a war, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with his mandate from the people, has ordered its intensification. He does not listen to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ messages of conciliation and acceptance in calmer times, why should he listen to them now?

Netanyahu is intensifying the war mainly in East Jerusalem, with orgies of collective punishment. He thus further reveals Israel’s success in physically disconnecting Jerusalem from most of the Palestinian population, accenting the absence of Palestinian leadership in East Jerusalem and the weakness of the government in Ramallah — which is trying to stop the drift in the rest of the West Bank.

The war did not start last Thursday, it does not start with the Jewish victims and does not end when no Jews are murdered. The Palestinians are fighting for their life, in the full sense of the word. We Israeli Jews are fighting for our privilege as a nation of masters, in the full ugliness of the term.

1. Haaretz writer booted from Palestinian school because she’s Israeli Jew

Haaretz Palestinian affairs reporter Amira Hass was asked to leave a conference at Ramallah’s Birzeit University last week because of the institution’s law banning Israeli Jews from the campus.

http://www.timesofisrael.com/haaretz-writer-booted-from-palestinian-school-because-shes-israeli/

When a Haaretz Journalist Was Asked to Leave a Palestinian University

The German Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and The Center for Development Studies (CDS) at Birzeit University organized a conference entitled, "Alternatives to Neo-Liberal Development in the Occupied Palestinian Territories – Critical Perspectives."

During the first presentation on Tuesday, two lecturers from the CDS approached me within ten minutes of each other, asking me to step outside, saying that they needed to talk to me. I asked them to wait until the break, but after they asked me a third time, I stepped out of the conference hall. "Am I not allowed to be here?" I asked, half-kidding, but one of the lecturers answered that there was a problem.

When I registered at the entrance of the conference I wrote next to my name the institution I belong to, Haaretz. For the past two decades, the lecturer said, there has been a law at Birzeit stipulating that Israelis (Jewish Israelis, that is) are not allowed on the university grounds. The students manning the conference registration desk saw that I had written "Haaretz," realized I was an Israeli, and ran to tell the university authorities. The security department in turn went to the conference organizers, the lecturer said. She and her colleagues were afraid, she told me, that students would break into the conference hall in protest over my presence.

BDS at work silencing a voice that you are applauding, because she is an Israeli Jew.

Her view of Israel is not one that I share.

Though I do think she ought to be permitted to speak at a Palestinian university and not banned from doing so because she is an Israeli Jew.

I am writing about this incident precisely because I did not take it personally. I do not take personally the fact that some faculty members were hiding behind hypothesized angry students and a law that many others seem to be unaware of.
---
Meanwhile, the university published a statement Saturday saying: "The administration has nothing against the presence of the journalist Hass. The university as a national institution differentiates between friends and enemies of the Palestinian people… and works with every person or institution that is against the occupation."

Ya see, ober. You always attempt to leave out the relevant facts, and I will be more than happy to help you find them.

There is no need to take it personally. BDS does not discriminate. Any Israeli Jew is boycotted regardless of their views.

...that there are certain areas of their historic & cultural homeland they have no right to be in.

Ever.

Imagine telling any other racial, ethnic, or religious group they are banned from going to or living in certain parts of any country in the world.

It's odious.

*Edited for clunkiness. I must've been tired.

You've learned nothing during your sabatical, IMHO.

Israeli zionism has been corrupted by Israel's right wing, IMHO, in its drive to use any excuse rob the Palestinians of their actual homeland with claims that zionism's grandparents lived there in ancient times.

I would ask anybody that is using that bankrupt argument to not go down the path of Yehuda Glick, Naftali Bennet, Ayelet Shaked, Bibi Netanyahu or Barauch Goldstein for that matter with claims of a greater Israel under the banner of righteous zionism of poor victims.

Do you like the earlier pre-corrupted version of Zionism? If so, what do you like about it?

Amira's friends in the W.Bank send out little kids to confront & attack innocents. They send these kids out to be human shields. But Hass writes about Palestinians fighting for their lives.

It doesn't get much lower than the sanctioning of this pathetic abuse of children. Hass supports this.

She's nothing more than a compassion abusing concern troll.
