Related: About this forum‘NYT’ and ‘Washington Post’ run (settler) professor’s articles defending settlements
http://mondoweiss.net/2015/12/washington-professors-settlementsBut Kontorovich is not just a settlement resident; a video that has come to light shows him expressing support for a notorious right-wing settler group that sees all of the West Bank as the exclusive possession of Jews.
In December 2013, Kontorovich gave a talk as a guest of Women in Green (WiG) on how to apply Israeli sovereignty overc Judea and Samaria [the West Bank] without jeopardizing the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.
The event took place in Ush Ghurab, on the outskirts of Beit Sahour, where settler activists waged a long campaign to ensure the land remained out of bounds for local Palestinians.
And the hasbarist trolls will be by in short order to scream about anti-semitism while overlooking their own.
I applaud Mondoweiss for shining a light on illegal colonist-Americans and the Israeli apartheid state.

(58,724 posts)During Carters visit to Gush Etzion he saw a living, thriving, and prosperous community. He met with council head, Shaul Goldstein, who did not heed the petition, world renowned Yeshiva (Jewish seminary) head Rabbi Aharon Lichtenstein, local resident Sherri Mandel whose son Koby was bludgeoned to death with rocks, and Ruth Gillis, whose husband was killed by a Palestinian sniper as he drove home. After hearing their stories Carter declared: I recognize that their suffering is taking place in an area where strife and misunderstanding and animosity exist.
All too often, Israeli settlers and their supporters fall into the trap of seeing the entire world as being against them including the United Nations, the international community, and the Israeli left. It becomes all too easy to preach solely to the choir those who already support the settlers such as many in the US evangelical community. However such disengagement from the broader Israeli public, and especially the international community, also makes it easy for the settlers to be typecast as villains, international pariahs and outlaws.
Yet, in the complex human mosaic that makes up the Arab-Israeli conflict, the settlers too deserve to be heard. Israeli settlers do have their own narratives to tell, consisting of dreams, aspirations, and stories. Many may even want peace and may be willing to make compromises in order to achieve it. Irrespective of ones views of the settlements, the voices of Israeli settlers need to be heard by those who want to make a positive difference in this conflict.
The visit certainly did not turn Carter into an admirer of settlements. However he did see another side of the Arab-Israeli conflict and upon leaving stated that "this particular settlement area is not one I ever envision being abandoned or changed over into Palestinian territory".

(14,851 posts)Weiss probably thinks that he being the only righteous Jew on the continent, he should be the one and only Jew allowed to write op-Ed pieces.

(58,724 posts)That was the whole purpose behind this article in the first place.
You'll notice almost all of it is just copying and pasting a different article published elsewhere.
One of the commentators quickly pointed out that Phil had mixed this guy up with a different Washington Post op-ed writer, so he deleted that part of the article.
All that's left is the cut-and-past of the Ben White article from Middle East Monitor basically.
