Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told his party’s lawmakers not to speak openly about annexing parts of the West Bank or building more settlements, warning of the possibility that outgoing US President Barack Obama could take fresh action against Israel.

In a closed-door meeting with Likud ministers, Netanyahu asked them to lie low until President-elect Donald Trump, who is seen as more friendly to Israeli settlement building, takes office next month.

“Don’t come out now with statements about annexing territory and building in the settlements, because there may be another international move (against Israel) before the change in the US administration on January 20,” Netanyahu said, according to the Ynet news website.

The incoming Trump administration is Kahanist and reckless in its approach to Israel/Palestine. Supporting Israel in the Trump/Netanyahu era is going to take on a much different meaning than ever before.

1. If the Palestinians can get a state w/o negotiations....

...then the Israelis can bypass negotiations too, by annexing areas that would go to Israel in any 2 state scenario. This UN resolution pre-determines an outcome w/o negotiations....exactly what the PA/Hamas want. It's a mistake. The Israelis can play that game too.

When the Palestinians figure out they should take their own state AND genuinely recognize the Jewish state, they'll get their own state with land swaps. They'll get more if they demonstrate they're serious about peace; less, if they insist on continuing their war on the Jews.

3. This resolution determines final borders, it's not just against settlements....

It makes the Western Wall occupied territory.

Your concern over 2 states is laughable considering you're against the concept altogether; against every offer going back to the '47 Partition Plan.

4. The truth of the matter is

despite the great efforts put in to support Israel the support is fading..

To be frank, a part from the Jewish community and a a portion of the American community...the whole rest of the world has more empathy for the Palestinians than for the Israelis and I think settlements have a lot to do with it..

Every time I hear a justification its either that settlements aren't increasing they are just consolidating..Well they are consolidating in a way that the Palestinian land looks more like Emmental (but more like the holes in the Emmental than the chess part).

Or if its not consolidation its about the biblical land right. Im sorry but for most of us its laughable. Its like if the wisigoths claimed France and the Delawares claimed Manhattan.

My mother's biggest dream post the war was to join a Kibboutz..She was totally pro Israeli..She now believes that the Israelis are really the ones who have never wanted peace and always looked to use their military superiority to make unreasonable demands..

Im not saying she is right..I m saying Israel is losing the communication war..Whether it is right or wrong is another question.
