Republican party appears to officially back one-state solution

A brilliant piece of reporting from Mitchell Plitnick, former director of the US office of B’Tselem. According to Plitnick, the Republican National Committee has adopted a resolution supporting one state in Israel-Palestine. The text of the resolution can be found here.

<snip>

"As Plitnick points out, the key passage that suggests that the Republican party is going one state reads as follows:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.

Costa, who hails from South Carolina where an identical resolution was passed in the state House of Representatives in June 2011, responded, “Yes it was adopted unanimously by the RNC last Friday at our winter meeting in New Orleans."

A one-state solution would involve one state for both Jews and Palestinians.

What the Republicans - and the majority of Jewish Israelis - support is a state for the Jews, and no state for the Palestinians.

What you wrote about "the majority of Jewish Israelis" is totally false.

Where do you get this nonsense from?

Most Jewish Israelis voted in the last election for parties that in practice oppose a two-state solution, or were lead by people who do. It could be that they were voting on other issues, but I don't think that is the case.

Opinion polls show that most Jewish Israelis like the idea of a Palestinian state in principle, but they're implacably opposed to actually creating one in practice.

What it could easily mean is that while most are still for 2 states - as it's really the only option on the table - they don't believe it will happen anytime soon due to not having a peace partner. Recall, however, that Likud came in 2nd place in votes to Kadima.

Now OTOH, polls consistently show that ~ 2/3 of Palestinians favor a one-state solution only for Palestinians in a sharia ruled state. Even worse, greater than 70 percent agree with the hadith to kill Jews.

Maybe that has something to do with Israelis not trusting their Palestinian partners?

Kadima came in first place in the popular vote.

And that party officially endorses the two-state solution.

The party that received the most votes explicitly supports a two-state solution.

Of the 4 parties that received the vast majority of the votes, 2 of them explicitly support a two-state solution (Kadima and Labour).

And, as you mentioned, every recent survey shows that the majority of Jewish Israelis support a two-state solution.
